Do you ever catch yourself saying, “That’s just my luck,” “I never find the right partner,” or “Bad things always happen to me”? Do you realize that when you repeat negative phrases about yourself and your circumstances, you create more of the same? Since you are always using words, you might as well use them for your good. Stepping into a new year is the perfect time to turn this around and write yourself a new script going forward.
A script is simply a series of words and phrases used to give direction to your actions. Similar to a movie script, you are the director of how your life plays out. You write the script and hand it off to the “actors”—in this case, the thoughts that go through your brain. While there are, of course, many things in your life you have little or no control over (other people’s actions, the rainstorm that might interrupt your party, an emergency that requires your attention), you do have control over your perceptions, expectations, responses, words, and general happiness.
In her book Feelings Buried Alive Never Die, author Karol K. Truman advises us to be aware of the scripts that go through our minds. She suggests that while being mindful of your feelings and thoughts, you would also be wise to be conscious and aware of the words you speak, as words have vibrational energy. Words are spoken thoughts that are generated by your feelings. When you say things like “I am sick and tired…,” you are literally wiring your brain to become sick and tired. There is always a direct correlation between your words and your health. If you suffer from depression and you refer to it as “my depression,” you are claiming possessive ownership of that condition. Just think how hard it is to heal from it in this way!
So let’s focus now on a new approach—a new script. Let’s take the above phrases and give them new direction:
Old Script: That’s just my luck.
New Script: I learned something from this. Next time will be better.
Old Script: I never find the right guy/girl.
New Script: I’m worthy and deserving of the right person for me.
Old Script: Bad things always happen to me.
New Script: I’m worthy and deserving of the right person for me.
Old Script: I am sick and tired…
New Script: I can do this! I see my way through it.
By taking these steps toward a more fulfilling and satisfying life, you are putting yourself in a position to gain control, where you become the master of your life’s circumstances rather than remaining a victim.
Have fun with this! Watch how your new direction aligns with the happiness you want and deserve. Also notice how your health improves over time. Words are real, with real energy. Use them wisely. Use your new skills as a scriptwriter to attract happier circumstances and a healthier mind and body. You’ve got this!
